Travel Essentials-Spring Break!
This semester has proved to be a time of firsts! This spring break, I’m traveling to a new place: London! Planning for this trip has truly been an experience. Gathering packing essentials, required documents needed to leave the country, and preparing for my first solo international flight has been nerve-wracking.

So here are a few things I have learned and deemed essential while packing for this trip.

First, and arguably the most important thing to remember, is to bring your documentation. Depending on where you are traveling, documentation like a locator form, vaccination status, negative covid test, letter of recovery, passport, and/or a contact tracing form may be required. It is imperative to double-check, even triple check, which documents are needed to make sure you can board your flight and even leave and come back into the country if traveling internationally.

Since I am traveling to London, a rain jacket and umbrella are absolutely essential. London, and the UK in general, is known for its gloomy days with spurts of rain. To dress nice and spend the day out and about, I will make sure I have my rain jacket and umbrella handy, so in the case of rain, it won’t completely ruin the day and require a trip back to the hotel to dry off and refresh.

Next up, of course, clothes! What do you pack for spring break? Depending on where you will be going, your luggage may be filled with swimsuits, sunscreen, shorts, t-shirts, and flip-flops. For me, the focus is on clothes that can work with the in-betweens of the weather, ranging from cold to hot to raining to a mixture of it all. I need attire that will work with the weather and can be a business professional by day to being a tourist, going sightseeing, and snapping a few photos by night. With this in mind, I am packing pieces that can mix and match, work well in layers, and can be dressed up or down. My essential pieces will include bodysuits, jeans, pants that can be dressed up or down, comfy shoes that I can spend the day walking in (sneakers, boots, business-appropriate flats), blazers, and other jackets that can be worn on their own for a warm day or under a trench/petit coat if needed. An everyday bag that can match any outfit is essential to carry anything you need, like an umbrella, water bottle, passport, wallet, etc.
a
Well, now that you have a breakdown of all the things I have deemed essential for my trip, and you will likely need for yours, make sure your luggage is under 50 pounds and leave carry-on room for the things you might want to buy while you are there!

Advice of the day: Go into whatever your plans are for spring break knowing that you will have a great time, but your schedule will likely be packed. You might see the irony in the fact that you might need “a break from spring break,” but make the most of the trip you are on and come back ready to take on the next adventure of the last few months left of the semester!
